An Ordinary Sunday
Ordinary Time
As a child, my Sundays consisted of going to church then having a family meal in the early afternoon, followed by long hours while my dad watched whatever sport was on TV and we waited for our turn to watch “The Wonderful World of Disney,” on the one TV set we owned. It wasn’t a “Little House on the Prairie” Sunday or Puritan Sunday of sitting quietly all day in prayer, but it was a quiet day.
Now, my favorite way to spend Sunday is, go to church, have a meal with family and/or friends, then read the paper and do the puzzles with sports on TV in the background. I don’t always get this quiet Sunday as life has a way of intervening, still I relish the quiet and the opportunity to be bored as I prepare for another week.
God knew what He was doing when He designated Sunday as a day of rest.
Do we know what we are doing when we ignore this?
What about you? How do you spend your Sundays?
In six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the lord has blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. Exodus 20:11
