The New License – a Lenten Lesson in Letting Go
Season of Change – Lent
Their daughter jumps with excitement, proudly waving her driver’s license.
“Mom, do you need anything from the store? I’ll get it for you.”
“Dad, I’ll pick up Joey from softball practice.”
New freedom for her–and for her parents.
Daughter, father, mother, rejoice together.
But other emotions mingle amid the pride. Her parents exchange glances. Have they instilled in her enough respect for the responsibility that accompanies this freedom? Does she really recognize the dangers inherent in driving? Dare they let her use her new freedom? Dare they not let her use it?
Ready or not, it’s time to let go once again, to allow their child–their young lady–to take her place in the world. A Lenten lesson is learned again–letting go.
All she feels is excitement.
All they feel is terror.
If you, with all your sins, know how to give your children what is good, how much more your heavenly Father give good things to anyone who asks him! Matthew 7:11
