God’s Spirit Is Not a Cowardly Spirit

 April 3, 2017

Lent – Preparing for Holy Week

God never gives us more than we can handle, it has been said and it is true. There is nothing that this world can throw at us, that with God’s help, we can’t handle. God’s spirit is not a cowardly spirit. God places his spirit in each of us, enough so that we can handle the particular challenges we face. Nothing more, nothing less. Jesus, full of God’s spirit, was able to face a terrible, ignominious death. How can we not face the challenges that beset us?

It’s up to us to listen to God’s spirit, rely on God’s grace, if we are to see this life through to fulfillment.

Here is my servant whom I uphold, my chosen one with whom I am well pleased, upon whom I have put my spirit: he shall bring forth justice to the nations.   Isaiah 42:1

This post is part of a series of reflections on the Church year. This week we begin to prepare for Holy Week – the most important week of the Church year.
