Two Edged Sword
Lent – Preparing for Holy Week
God’s word is a two edged sword. It cuts both ways and it cuts deep. It knows just how deep to go. Better than the most refined laser technology used in medical procedures, it seeks out the cancer, cuts and removes that which is diseased and leaves the rest. It heals and it challenges. It takes away that which we no longer need, whether aware of this or not, and lays us open to God’s presence and love.
As Dorothy Day tells us, God’s word comforts the afflicted and afflicts the comfortable. It did so in Old Testament times and continues to do so today.
Welcome weapon of God, may you cut deep and true this Holy Week, pierce my heart and make it truly thine.
He made of me a sharp-edged sword and concealed me in the shadow of his arm. He made me a polished arrow, in his quiver he hid me. Isaiah 49:2
