Looking Away
Good Friday
Gut-wrenching. Slowly the one you love is being torn apart, flesh ripped, tormented and tortured. It is too much to bear, too much for anyone to watch. You are in pain as you see his pain. Is it any wonder that you turn away, unable to watch.
So hard sometimes to turn on the news and see the suffering present, blasted across the air waves in full color. So hard to hear stories of torture and devastation happening some where each day in this world. Is it any wonder that so many turn off the news, unable to watch.
Yet it truly was our suffering he bore, our suffering he continues to bear wherever there is violence, hatred, destruction.
Oh God, help me to not look away but to see your face in the face of those who are suffering in our world today.
He was spurned and avoided by men, a man of suffering, accustomed to infirmity, one of those from whom men hide their faces, spurned, and we held him in no esteem. Yet it was our infirmities that he bore, our sufferings that he endured. Isaiah 53:3-4a
