A Job Well Done – Good Shepherd Sunday

Easter – Season of New Life

She can pat herself on the back for this one, they tell her.  A job well done. Something she can take pride in. She spearheaded the planning and the building of this hospital, this facility that will provide medical care for an entire community:  a place for babies to be born, where lives will be saved, where dying will be honored. This is a great moment for all of us in this community; this is a great beginning

Why, then is she so tired? Why does she feel a vague discontent?

Birthing takes its toll; it’s hard work. And after the birthing comes the real work of shepherding the child to maturity, of getting on with the work which was birthed.

After Easter comes Pentecost and the work of shepherding the church.

The Father loves me for this: that I lay down my life to take it up again. No one takes it from me; I lay it down freely. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.    John 10:17-18
