Living Through Peaks, Valleys, and Plateaus
Ordinary Time – Season of Stability
Married life isn’t lived just on the peaks, the happy moments of celebration, nor is it just for the valley times to support each other through times of sorrow and loss. A good deal of married life is spent on the plateau of day to day living, bearing with each other, not just through good times and bad, but also during the so-so times of life–the daily irritations and annoyances, communicating when you’d really rather not.
Church community life isn’t just for the peaks and valleys, sharing the joys of baptisms and weddings, the sorrow of funerals. A good part of belonging to any community is just being there on a regular basis through the day-to-day struggles of life, helping with the small things as well as the large, attending when you’d really rather not, when you’d rather sleep in or go fishing or golfing or shopping.
It’s in the day-to-day living that we build the relationships that sustain us throughout our lives.
