A Matter of Attitude

Ordinary Time – Season of Stability

Most of us lead lives of quiet desperation, or so says Thoreau. One day spills into another day without cease. Time never stands still for all our efforts to slow it down or speed it up. We work at the same boring job, live in the same boring suburb, raise children and finally die. We never seem to get ahead and despite all of our best efforts, disaster or even worse, continued drudgery, lie ahead. Where is the meaning in this?

But I have reason to get up every day, reason to rejoice in the ordinary events of my everyday life. My life, though ordinary, is far from boring.

It’s all a matter of attitude.

The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the command of the Lord is clear, enlightening the eye; the fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are true, all of them just; they are more precious than gold, than a heap of purest of gold.    Psalm 19:9-11
