Resources for Lent

 February 11, 2021

Looking for resources for Lent? The season of Lent challenges us to consciously enter into a process of changing, to let go of selfish attitudes . . . and to grow closer to God! My newly released Bible Study, The Psalms in Light of the Lord’s Prayer, is a great resource for Lent along with my book of meditations, Season of Change. Both invite you to grow spiritually during this important time of year.

Resources for Lent – Psalms in Light of the Lord’s Prayer

The Book of Psalms holds vast spiritual treasures, but how do we unlock these treasures?

The Psalms in Light of the Lord’s Prayer, provides a format easily accessible to all readers. Using the Lord’s Prayer as a guide, the Psalms are divided into seven categories. Each category relates to one of the seven phrases of the Lord’s Prayer.

Use this Bible study individually or in a group. Each section includes reflection questions to guide the reader. Reflect on them over the course of a week, assigning each phrase of the Lord’s Prayer to a day of the week, starting with Sunday: Our Father who art in heaven; Monday: Hallowed be thy name; and etc. Or over seven weeks, or even over seven months. It makes a great Bible study for Lent, beginning with the first week of Lent through Holy Week.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer tells us, “All the prayers of Holy Scripture are summarized in the Lord’s Prayer, and are contained in its immeasurable breadth.” What better way to unlock this treasure?

“Whenever the Psalter is abandoned, an incomparable treasure vanishes from the Christian church. With its recovery will come unsuspected power.”— Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

Resources for Lent – Season of Change

All of life is change and transition. Yet, because change entails an ending and a loss even in the most joyful events, many people find themselves uncomfortable with it.

When change confronts us, the meditations in Season of Change can help. They focus on events that tie our lives together and often acts as barriers between us and our growth, look at issues such as moving, clinging to old practices, getting cold feet, and uneasiness, and help us take time out to check our progress and assess where we are headed.

Blending real-life vignettes with biblical quotations, these brief reflections focus on change and transition–the steppingstones to personal spiritual growth. They can help you fully immerse yourself in the Lenten spirit. During the rest of the year, the insights and attitudes developed during the Lenten season can provide encouragement and comfort when you are experiencing conflicting emotions that accompany change.

Simple, yet moving, these meditations can help us follow Jesus more completely through and beyond the season of Lent. Get you copy today
