Give Mom Spirituality Based on Her Everyday Reality
When I was a young mother, over thirty years ago, there was little to no information available to help moms grow in spirituality based on her everyday reality. To grow spiritually we were told we needed to go on a retreat away from everything, something very difficult for someone with small children. In response to this I wrote my book, Daily Meditations (with Scripture) for Busy Moms. Now there are many such books available, all designed to help moms grow in the spiritual life.
What is Spirituality Based on Her Everyday Reality?
But what is this spirituality? It’s a spirituality on the run, that finds a minute amid the challenges of childrearing to stop and recognize how blessed we are. It can be found by reading a short reflection or taking a mini-vacation while your children are sleeping or occupied in play. It is found on the playground and at the dinner table.
You don’t have to go away to a retreat center to reflect on your life. You just do it! Reflect on how God is present while wrangling fighting children, changing diapers, cleaning spit-up and vomit, and rocking a sleeping child.
Who Me? Full of Grace?
Even Mary had difficulty recognizing how worthy she was. The angel Gabriel said, “Hail Mary, full of grace,” and Mary responds, “Who Me?” It can be hard to recognize how blessed we are when chasing after toddlers or cleaning spit-up. My book, Who Me? Full of Grace? is designed to give moms spirituality based on her everyday reality.
It is broken into five short chapters with topics any mom can relate to.
- Motherhood Stress – It Causes More than a Few Grey Hairs
- Anger – a Blessing in Disguise
- Prayer – Finding Time when there is no Time
- Spiritual Mothers – Who are the Mentors in your Life?
- Finding Grace in your Life Journey
Each chapter ends with reflection questions and exercises that can be done during a moment of quiet or while on the run. The book fits into a purse or diaper bag to be brought out to read while waiting in the car to pick up kids or while waiting for a doctor appointment.
A great gift for mothers of young children. This year, give the mom in your life spirituality based in her everyday reality! She will thank you for it!
