Let Sunday be Sunday!
Ordinary Time – Season of Stability
Why can’t I just let Sunday be Sunday? A day of rest and relaxation. A day of prayer dedicated to God. A day with no agenda.
It’s not that I don’t have plenty to do to fill the day. I resist the urge to bring work home. I resist the urge to clean house all day. Maybe a little cleaning to keep the place livable, but we’ve lived this long in it. What’s yet another day?
Why is it so hard to just let Sunday be Sunday, to leave it open and for God? I fight the urge to fill it up with doing.
For those of us in the United States, tomorrow is Labor Day, another chance to rest! For others tomorrow may be a work day, filled to overflowing. I’ll work better for having rested today. Why do I have to justify a day of rest? Even God rested after creating the world.
Leave tomorrow’s work for tomorrow. For today, just let Sunday be Sunday.
On six days work may be done, but the seventh day shall be sacred to you as the Sabbath of complete rest to the Lord. Exodus 35:2
